Abstract
A Propagule Rhizophora mangle was found on the beach in De Panne, Belgium. This species of mangrove is found in the tropical area on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Although an eastward drift by the Gulf stream is hypotheticallly possible, the author believes the propagule is of 'regional origin'. The success of stocking aquaria and vivaria with living plants, amongst others also mangrove seedlings can be an explanation. Mangorve propagules are sold on the internet by specialised importers e.g. from the UK, the US, The Netherlands and Austria.
