Abstract
Larval Ascarids parasitic in Teleostean fishes from the western Mediterranean, present in the collections of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle de Paris, are studied. Nine distinct larval types were found : Anisakis simplex s. 1. [= Anisakis sp. larva (I) Berland] ; A. physeteris [= Anisakis sp. larva (II) Berland] ; Pseudoterranova decipiens ; Contracaecum sp. ; Hysterothylacium aduncum ; H. fabri ; H. arnoglossi ; Hysterothylacium sp. no s 1 and 2. Illustrations are given for each species and measurements for H. aduncum, H. fabri and H. arnoglossi. Contracaecum sp. and Hysterothylacium sp. no s 1 and 2 are described. A key for all of these larvae is proposed. In Hysterothylacium aduncum and H. fabri, the ratios : total body length/oesophagus length, oesophagus length/appendix length, oesophagus length/caecum length are smaller in larvae than in adults. The most common larvae are those of H. fabri (in 54,5 % of the studied fishes), H. aduncum (23,6%) and Anisakis sp. s. l. (11,8%).
