Abstract
This note reports the capture of a specimen of honeycomb grouper, Epinephelus merra, in Northwestern Mediterranean Sea. The range of this Indo-Pacific species does not include the Mediterranean Sea, or even the Red Sea or Atlantic Ocean. Its presence would not appear to be due to introduction via the Suez Canal or the Strait of Gibraltar or through ballast waters with shipping. The occurrence of this species is probably due to release from an aquarium.
