Abstract
In this paper an outline will be given of the contribution which geotechnical engineering can give to an estimation of the seismic risk of a site. Fig. 1. gives a very schematic picture of some phenomena which can occur during an earthquake. The earthquake originates in the hypocenter and in relation with this the first question can be posed: what is the magnitude of the earthquake to be expected?
