Abstract
The determination of the dietary of Copepods by morphological analysis is discussed by taking into account other author’s hypotheses (Anraku and Omori , 1963; Itoh , 1970; Nival’s and Nival, 1973, 1976). So Itoh’ s (1970) “edge index” and Nival and Nival’s (1973, 1976) “theoretical filtration spectrum “ are analysed in relation with the kind of observation technic used. The usefulness of these concepts is compared to recent rearing experiments. New observations suggest a relation between some buccal structures and the minimal size of particles that Copepods are able to swallow without any preliminary treatment. Furthermore the same structures should be useful in determining the Copepod’s preference in food size.
