Abstract
    Squalus megalops is recorded for the first time in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. Preliminary data seem to point out a larger frequency off Morocco and the south of Spain than S. blainvillei (Risso, 1826). The methods used for diagnosis and its systematic position within the genus Squalus are discussed.
