Abstract
The Newfoundland cod-tagging database contains detailed records of 205,422 cod released in 177 different tagging studies during 1954-55, 1962-66, and 1978-93. The cod, tagged with disc and dangler and T-bar anchor tags, were released from all major coastal regions of southern and eastern Newfoundland; offshore releases were concentrated on the northeastern Newfoundland Shelf and the north central Grand Bank. Recaptures have been reported from virtually all areas of the Shelf, Grand Banks, Flemish Cap, Gulf of St Lawrence, and eastern Scotian Shelf. This report provides an overall yet comprehensive statistical and spatial-temporal summary of the primary data contained in the database, including size and number of cod tagged and released, sex, parasite infections, time between release and recapture, and water temperatures. Summaries of each tagging experiment are also included. The appendix describes the data formats in the database.
