Abstract
    The Authors summarize the observations made during these last years on the settlement of the Indopacific mollusk Scapharca sp. along the Western coast of the middle Adriatic Sea. The acclimatization and demographic increase of this species have been confirmed. It is suggested that its great viability may depend on the presence of hemoglobin in its blood. On the ground of comparative examination with the coogeneric Indopacific species the Authors conclude that the new member of the marine Mediterranean malacofauna has to be named Scapharca inaequivalvis (Bruguière, 1789).
