| Abstract |
In the period of 1985-92 the occurrence of the trematode Cryptocotyle lingua in whiting was examined. On the Belgian continental plat the rate of the infected whiting was 9.5 % against 3.6 % in the open sea. This phenomenon is related to the sea gull pollulation and to the presence of the intermediate host Littorina littorea. Taking in account the degree of infection, about 2 % of the catch is less suitable for sale as fresh fish. With regard to the condition, whiting has been significantly influenced by the presence of the trematode. On the contrary the parasite does not affect the liver fat content nor the blood parameters. |
