Abstract
    The shallowing of the Blankenberge harbour-entrance channel is caused by a complex of interacting coastal processes with different intensities at different places within the Belgian coastal zone. The channel, which is perpendicular to the shore, forms an obstacle to longshore eolian aquatic sediment movement. There is a clear mutual interaction between the choking of the channel and the nearby beach dynamics. The research highlights the importance of net longshore sediment transport, both eolian and aquatic, in this part of the Belgian coast. It shows that important quantities of sand are moved in relatively short periods of time.
