Abstract
At the end of the seventies, wind energy grew popular as an alternative form of energy. This study puts into daylight the economic feasibility of wind energy conversion systems in Belgium, especially for small scale applications (residential heating). Using wind velocity and temperature distributions in Belgium, demand for energy and supply of wind energy are compared. By means of the internal rate of return, it is measured in how far wind energy as a free substitution form for conventional energy makes the investment in a wind energy conversion system worth making. The necessary economic data were gathered by means of a quotation to suppliers. Conclusion of the study is that in Belgium the location of wind-mills is economically feasible only near the coast.
