Abstract
(Landscape, motifs of the landscape, French-Belgian metropolis of Lille)At the request of the Cross-Border Workshop, Philippe Thomas, landscape designer, analyses the essential characteristics of four landscape motifs in the cross-border metropolis: (1) the 'mounts' and hills, (2) the quarries, (3) the valleys and (4) the empty horizons. For each motif, he identifies the challenges and formulates recommendations. On the basis of this study, the Cross-Border Workshop suggests a number of concrete projects for landscape construction.
