Abstract
Examination of collections from near New Caledonia, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Philippines allows the recognition of four new rare, bathyal species of Leptochiton: L. fijiensis n. sp., L. neocaledonicus n. sp., L. kantori n. sp., and L. vanuatuensis n. sp. In addition, range extensions of four known species (L. saitoi, L. japonica, L. samadiae, L. vietnamensis), and intraspecific variation in L. vietnamensis, are documented. At least two of the new species (L. kantori n. sp., L. vanuatuensis n. sp.) live and feed on sunken terrestrial plant remains.
