Abstract
A new species of caprellid amphipod, Caprella gorgonia, is described from gorgonian octocorals from the coast of southern California. It is characterized by the slender anterior head projection, the strongly tuberculate basis of gnathopod 2, and large lateral spines on pereonite 5. Observations in the field indicate that Lophogorgia chilensis Verrill is the primary substrate for this caprellid.
