Abstract
In this paper, we record gentlemorphologic features such as plateaus and basins and discuss the results of our examnation of them. In these regions, the distribution of the surface sedimentary layer can be observed continously in 3.5 KHz SBP.However, the surface sedimentary layer is not clearly obseved on the slope of the ocean plateaus and trenches and oceanic ridges. These differences are thought to be caused by the complex morphology as well as the acoustic properties of the sediments. The correlation between the acoustic dtratigraphy and the DSDP results shows lithological constraint on the acoustic records. There are no disturbed reflectors in the surfacce sedimentary layer on oceanic rises, plateaus or basins. This may indicate that the crustal movement did not occur during or after the formation of the surface sedimentary layer.
