Abstract
    The paper presents the situation of the cooperation in the framework of the global water management in the Dutch-Flemish border region. The Belgian-Dutch Commission for the Non-navigable Border Watercourses has been existed for a long time together with the Benelux Working Group Groundwater; During the recent years, the universal growth of the global water management, the federalization of the water policy in Belgium and the etablishment of the International Commissions for the protection of the rivers Meuse and Scheldt came into effect. The result was, in the beginning of 1997, the start of the Dutch-Flemish Global Water Management Consultation Group and four Border Region River Basin Groups. Their composition as well as all competences of the groups are to be presented in detail further in the paper. Finally, the role played by the chairmen of the Belgian and the Dutch commission delegations, respectively ir. A.Denteneer and ir. J.Hoogland, is to be declared.
