Abstract
The sexual cycle of the sardine of Mahdia sector was studied by means of ponderal growth of the gonads. The spawning takes place from November to February. The sardine presents the maximum of weight in summer and a minimum of weight in autumn and winter. The study of fecundity shows that the spawning of the sardine is sequential. The absolute fecundity per spawning is included between 5428 and 29370 ovocytes. The relative fecundity is, in mean, equal to 480 ovocytes per gramme of total mass and 7693 ovocytes per gramme of gonads mass.
