Abstract
The essential features of the classical harmonic analysis of tides are recapitulatedl in view of the use of digital computers. Special attention is paid to the possible errors in the analysis dlue to sampling andl non-astronomical effects. For this purpose the theory of stationary stochastic processes is applied to the tidal phenomenon.
