On the basis of satellite and ship data the internal structure of the fronts in the Norwegian and Greenland seas is investigated. The "staircase" and "intermittent" types of multifrontal internal structure are separated. The main mesoscale features of this structure are described and the thermohaline characteristics of frontal zone structures are studied. The percentage of the mesoscale eddies of different types is investigated. The crossfrontal eddy heat and salt transport is estimated. From ship data some examples of different mesoscale features are described.
