Abstract
To determine the role of the decline in plasma 11-ketotestosterone (11KT) levels during the parental phase, intact male sticklebacks were implanted with 11-ketoandrostenedione (11KA). 11KA is converted to 11KT in the fish. This treatment prevented the natural decline of 11KT, the consequences of which were studied regarding behavioural responses in the males. Treated males exhibited the similar decrease in sexual behaviour and increase in parental behaviour as controls.
