Abstract
Using cRNA in situ hybridization, weak to moderate expression of the 3 beta -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase gene was shown to be confined to special thecal cells in thecal layers of rainbow trout vitellogenic follicles. Hybridization signals and positive thecal cells numbers increased in the post-vitellogenic period. Granulosa cells occasionally displayed weak hybridization signals. in vitro forskolin treatment enhanced hybridization signals in juvenile ovary and testis. Similar increases occurred in GTH- or forskolin-treated early vitellogenic follicles.
