Abstract
Based on the histological demonstration of spermatozoa within the ovaries, the occurrence of insemination is reported in six characiform and one siluriform species previously not documented. The sperm nuclei of these species, as well as those of two inseminating siluriform species of the family Auchenipteridae, ranged from slightly ovoid to greatly elongate, modifications which appear to be adaptations to this reproductive mode.
