Abstract
    The short term effects of the environmental estrogen 4-nonylphenol (NP) and 17 beta -estradiol (E2) on the mRNA levels of pituitary gonadotropin subunits LH beta (GTH II beta ) and FSH beta (GTH I beta ), and ovarian estrogen receptor (ER), Vitellogenin receptor (VtgR) and LH receptor (LHR) were investigated in juvenile Atlantic salmon by RT-PCR and Northern blotting. NP and E2 induced LH beta mRNA synthesis in the female salmon. No significant changes were observed in pituitary FSH beta and ovarian ER, VtgR and LHR mRNA levels
