Abstract
    A review of swordfish research, fishing, processing, trade, and consumption in Brazil. This document examines historical developments through the mid-1990s and provides some indication of future trends in the swordfish fishery. This country chapter is desinged to provide readers with a detailed summary of available information concerning swordfish and related fisheries. Important topics include: species, fishing grounds, catches, fleet, fishing gear and method, ports, companies, processing, transshipments, trade (exports and imports), domestic consumption, research, bycatch, foreign fishing, joint ventures, international relations, enforcement, and future trends. The document is extensively illustrated with maps, graphs, and photographs and includes detailed statistical appendices.
