Abstract
    This paper deals with the actual and historical situation concerning nature conservation in the Dutch coastal dunes. Special attention is paid to the role of environmental pressure groups, leading to the establishment of Stichting Duinbehoud in 1977. Recommendations are given concerning legal protection, management situation, nature development, research and information.
