Abstract
The tubes of 4 spp of amphictenid polychaetes were collected from the slimy or conchitic bottoms of the Gullmarfjord and the Lysekil Archipelago for granulometric strdies of their possible dependence on the sediment. Every sp presents a characteristic maximum dimension of grains independent of the collection site and comparable with values established for previously studied biotopes in Brittany or Normandy; as it is always discordant with the granulometric graph of the surrounding sediment, it denotes an active selection by each sp in a particular spot. These granulometric data depend on the growth of the animal and are related to the building-organs complex and its specific behaviour: on this basis the difference between the tubes of Pectinaria and Petta can be explained.
