Abstract
A study of some fluorescent substances present in a natural plankton sample of copepods is presented. Identification of erythropterin, drosopterin, isodrosopterin and neodrosopterin is made. Erythropterin which is the most prevalent was identified by its degradation product, by UV spectrum, electrophoresis and chromatography. Some of these pterins may have taken part in the formation of the red colour of this plankton.
