Abstract |
Of the groups mentioned, the spp so far found in Norfolk waters are listed, with notes on their biology. Of 86 spp, 4 are doubtful, 5 were new to science when found here, 1 long-lost sp has been rediscovered, and 7 more are new to the British Isles. New host records are given for 4 spp. Whereas the benthonic spp show many features of interest and are often found reproducing here, the planktonic spp are almost all what one would expect to find in this area, and are very seldom seem to reproduce. It is shown that the establishment in the Norfolk area of a suitable biotope for even a limited time can result in the development of a rich, even though localised, fauna; conversely, unstable conditions make life extremely precarious for all save a few resistant spp. |
