Abstract
    Qualitative and quantitative variations of the main planktonic groups (phytoplankton and zooplankton) were followed from May 1965 to Jan 1969, by a team of searchers, in the S. W. part of the neritic region in the Gulf of Lion (Banyuls-sur-mer). For each group a separate publication has been given. The planktonic copepods, which represent one of the essential elements of secondary production, are the topic of the present study. 2 main spp have been particularly studied for a whole yr, C. typicus and T. stylifera. In this 1st part, the principles on which the study is based, the production and the validity of the numeric data, results of the methodologic choice, especially tests on the conclusiveness of the Harvey hypothesis, are considered as well as the relative importance of the 2 spp in relation to the copepods as a whole.
