Abstract
The development of radula hasa been studied in different chitons. The primary radula is formed in the trochophore as one longitudinal row of chitinoid plates. The fragmentation of these plants leads to the formation of hamate dents of the definitive radula on which firm crowns containing silicum secondarily form. The lateral dents form gradually due to the fragmentation of the initially single plate. The central dents of the definitive radula form rather lately in ontogenesis. A hypothesis is put forward that there are several stages of radula development in phylogenesis.
