Abstract
    The relations between B 12 conc in the supralittoral rockpools, the number of vitamin synthesising organisms and the phytoplankton evolution have been investigated. The B 12 conc is apparently related to the number of vitamin synthesising bacteria; fungi and yeasts being less important for vitamin production. To each phytoplankton bloom corresponds a bloom of heterotrophic bacteria producing vitamins, so that one may consider that the auxotrophic organisms of plankton usually find the B12 conc they need in their environment, since this conc is depleted by uptake only during the very luxuriant blooms of phytoplankton of late spring and summer. The B 12 conc seems to be the consequence of planktonic activity rather than the origin or the enhancement of phytoplankton blooms. The bacteria- plankton relations may be partly dependent upon B 12 production. but the rate of release of organic matter by plankton during its growth mainly is suspected to be more decisive.
