Abstract
The complete larval development of the Harpacticoid copepod H. littoralis is described. 5 naupliar and 6 copepodite stages (the 6th being the adult) have been found. The oral appendages are definitive in their structure since the first copepodite stage. The other appendages of the copopodite stages are figured and compared with those of H. uniremis Kroyer described by Ito (1971). Sex can be determined at the copepodite stage 4. female are often fertilized as 5th copepodites, but the male are not functional until the adult stage. A single female may produce several egg-sacs from a single fertilization. Times taken in development are noted. The complete life cycle (from hatch to hatch) comprises 23 days at 15°C and 30 per mille. Aspects on the biology and seasonal variations of the sp in the brackish ponds near Arcachon are given and discussed in relation with ecological conditions
