Abstract |
An hermaphroditic, marine sp of the gen Ichthydium is described from North Carolina, USA and from Arcachon, France. This cosmopolitan sp occurred in the uppermost portions of the intertidal zones of 2 sandy beaches. It is characterized by its small body size, by its supporting rod in the cuticle that resembles a vertebral column, a Stylochaeta-type pattern of cilia and sequential hermaphroditism. Its systematic position may be closest to the freshwater family Dasydytidae. |
