Abstract
The polychromatism of S. serratum populations has been studied on the coast of Charente-Maritime, Bassin d'Arcachon and Basses-Pyrenees, where 13 representative specimens including 8,011 individuals have been gathered. The development of vast sand or slime beaches constitutes important areas of discontinuity in the species' distribution. Albicans represents hardly a quarter of the individuals while discretum forms, on an average, two thirds of the populations; other morphs are absent or lowly represented. The 2 stations of Arcachon are distinguished by a reduced polychromatism.
