Abstract
This study, carried out upon 36 spp of teleosts belonging to 22 families, allows an intraspecific brain-bodyweight coefficient of allometry, the value of which is 0.487, to be calculated. The rate of the encephalic growth is related to the sea or fresh water life, and with the level of evolution. 547 spp lead to an interspecific coefficient of allometry, the value of which is 0.630, close to the theoretical value 2/3. The same analysis at the level of the other systematic units (genus, fam, order) gives the following results: coefficient of allometry at the level of the genus: 0.493; at the level of the fam: 0.517; at the level of the order: 0.592. these values are likely to be the expression of intermediate stages among the evolution of the brain-body weight relationships in teleosts.
