Abstract
Galeus melastomus is an Atlanto-Mediterranean sp which is only caught off the Northern coasts of Tunisia. Adults are caught at greater depths (350 m) than juveniles (150 to 300 m). Sexual maturity occurs for males and females at about 42 cm TL. Fertilization and egg laying occur year round and are not subject to seasonal changes. Fecundity is from 15 to 25 egg capsules per year. There is a corrleation between size and fecundity in G. melastomus. The average dimensions of the egg capsule are: 4 . 6 cm long, 2 . 1 cm in width and 3 . 9 g in weight.
