Abstract
By Jensen's method, the ages of P. lividus and P. miliaris have been determined. The test diameter is calculated for urchins with a determined number of growth zones and the von Bertalanffy's growth equation parameters are deduced. The maximum size of these urchins on the north coast of Brittany is very large when compared with the results obtained in other countries. The maximum longevity appears to be >10 years for the two species. Due to overfishing, Paracentrotus is becoming quite scarce. It needs to be four years old to be economicaly useful. It seems rather difficult to begin the breeding of this species.
