Abstract
Mussels have been sampled from the east side of the North Sea from Arcachon in France to Cape Skagen in Denmark and on the west side from Lands End to Edinburgh. High levels of mercury occur in mussels taken from the vicinity of the Rhine and Eems Dollard, and values on the British coast are generally higher than on the east side of the North Sea.
