Abstract
Morphometric and gravimetric characteristies of the economically important gastropod Fissurella maxima were determined. Growth of the keyhole limpet F. maxima was studied using Walford and von Bertalanffy's methods, based on size frequency and shell growth rings. Six size classes and eleven growth rings were detected in the population under study. Considering that there was coincidence among mean size of the age classes and mean size of some growth rings, it was assumed that F. maxima could form two growth rings each year, as F. crassa does. So, rings II, IV, VI, VIII, X, and XII were considered as annual growth rings. A growth curve was obtained to describe growth of F. maxima at Iquique.
