Abstract
    Four species of Soleidae live in Douarnenez Bay: the Dover sole Solea vulgaris vulgaris (Quensel, 1806), the sand sole Solea lascaris Risso, 1810), the solenette Buglossidium luteum (Risso, 1810) and the thickback-sole Microchirus variegates (Donovan, 1808). S. vulgaris breeds in winter (December-March), S. lascaris spawns in spring and in summer (May-September), B. luteum especially in spring (March-mid July) as M. variegates. In the four species, vitellogeneis takes place in several batches of oocytes; all siages of vitellogenesis can be observed in females before the breeding period. B. luteum deep few ripe oocytes in their ovaries after breeding, so calculated fecundities (519 eggs /g and 1340 eggs/g respectively) may represent true fecundities of species.
