Abstract |
Clathromorphum and Antarcticophyllum, two encrusting genera among the coralline algae, are classically restricted to cold waters - of the Northern Hemisphere for the first one and the Southern for the latter. By their morphogenetic similarities they appear to be the same entity. Consequently there remains one genus, Clathromorphum, which seems thus to be well-represented in the Southern Hemisphere with two species: C. obtectulum (Foslie) Adey and C. lemoineanum Mendoza et Cabioch sp. nov. which is newly described. The two species are compared on the basis of their morphological and anatomical characters and a preliminary pattern of their geographical distribution is given. |
