Abstract
This work is a comprehensive view on the foraminiferal biocoenoses of the English Channel. According to their depth distribution, the infra-circalittoral limit goes up from -40 metres in the western Channel to -20 metres in the eastern Channel. Only a few species are strictly circalittoral. The species distribution on the various types of bottom shows that they fall into three main categories: the sand and gravel dwellers, the sand-gravel dwellers and the gravel dweller s. The annual variations of the temperature play a prominent part in the foraminiferal distribution, whereas its mean value is less important. Authors distinguish four foraminiferal populations.
