Abstract
This paper reviews evidence concerning the bactericide activity of sea water of the worldwide ocean and presents original data concerning the behaviour of Microvibrio marinus sampled as well in surface or to the bottom, from the arctic to the antarctic areas. Bactericidal activity has been detected in all samples collected all over the world. When bacteria are introduced in these samples, they present an alteration of their membrane which likely depends on an ionic stress effect. The evolution is accelerated and extended in the presence of microvibrio, leading to a complete destruction of the inoculated bacteria.
