Abstract
During a spatial survey of macrozoobenthos in lagoons of Albufeira and Obidos (west coast of Portugal), the study of the annelid fauna was based on the results from 107 sampling stations. A list of 49 species (47 polychaetes and 2 oligochaetes) is given, 10 of which are new for the portuguese coasts and one for the iberian peninsula coasts. From a similarity analysis two major coenotic assemblages were identified, both having the same distribution in each lagoon: a coarse sand community which is restricted to the outer tidal channels with few but characteristic marine species; and a sandy mud community which is widespread in the inner parts, with a relatively rich fauna dominated by typical species of organically enriched sediments.
