Abstract
A scanning electron microscopic study of the three species of the genus Nephtys: N. breogani, N. hombergi and N. cirrosa, collected on Covas beach (Vivero estuary, Lugo, NW Spain) has been done. The presence of a ciliation in the gills of the three species (described only in N. breogani ) and the interramal arch of N. breogani and N. hombergi is the result most detachable. Also N. breogani is included into the key proposed by Rainer (1984) to determine the species of the genus Nephtys in Europe, together with a discussion of the main characters used.
