Abstract
The diatom community is strongly modified by the spate. The study of a cross-section of the river shows these variations. In the drift, periphytic algae increase suddenly while on the upper face of the pebbles diatoms are swept off. On the emersed edges after 15 days, a diatom colonization settles under the stones. Below the dam of Sisteron, more phytoplanktonic diatoms are found in the drift; at the same time, epilithic diatoms are more abundant under the pebbles. A simplified diagram tries to synthesize the spate effects on the diatom community.
