Abstract
Shells of larvae of benthic Prosobranch Gastropods, collected along the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, have been studied by scanning electron microscopy. The authors were able to distinguish 20 different taxa: 11 taxa were recognized at species level, 7 taxa were recognized at genus level, 1 at family level and 1 at order level. According to protoconch morphology, 17 larvae belong to planctotrophic species while 3 larvae show lecitotrophic development. Due to detailed iconography, they decided to give only a brief description of the protoconchs; instead, they have paid greater attention to comparative analysis of the protoconchs of similar species in order to better discriminate them.
