Abstract |
Shells of larvae of benthic Prosobranch Gastropods, collected along the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, have been studied by scanning electron microscopy. The authors were able to distinguish 20 different taxa: 11 taxa were recognized at species level, 7 taxa were recognized at genus level, 1 at family level and 1 at order level. According to protoconch morphology, 17 larvae belong to planctotrophic species while 3 larvae show lecitotrophic development. Due to detailed iconography, they decided to give only a brief description of the protoconchs; instead, they have paid greater attention to comparative analysis of the protoconchs of similar species in order to better discriminate them. |
