Abstract
Seasonal variations of the reproductive cycle of Donax trunculus (L.) from the Sandy beach of Mehdia was studied between March 1981 and February 1982. Gametogenetic activity starts with the decreasing temperature at the end of autumn. In winter, most of the individuals are mature and the gamete release takes place in spring when the temperature begins to increase. After the complete spawning in July, animals are in the resting stage which spreads from August to November. During this period, individuals show a weight increase due to the accumulation of reserves in the somatic tissue. These reserves could be used for future gametogenesis. It was noticed that the reproductive effort of D. trunculus increased with age.
