Abstract
    The ontogeny of osmoregulatory structures has been studied during the post-embryonic development of Penaeus japonicu. Osmoregulatory epithelia occur progressively in branchiostegites, pleurae, gills and epipodites of different larval and postlarval stages. Several events were concurrently observed: Salinity tolerance increases progressively after metamorphosis; Osmoregulation shifts in postlarvae; maximum capacity to osmoregulate is established in stages PL5-PL6; and Na+-K+. Atpase activity increases progressively. Interrelationships can be drawn between the changes. It is again demonstrated that morphological, anatomical, eco-ethological and physiological changes are closely interrelated at metamorphosis.
