Abstract
Three subtidal stations in the English Channel were used to compare biovolume techniques versus direct weighting for calculating nematode biomass: two fine-sand stations, station 1 Pierre Noire, and station 2 Baie de Seine, and a coarse-sand station, station 3 Trezen Vraz. Conformity was found between biomass values computed from Wieser's formula and direct weighting only at station 2. Nematode size and morphology being different for the three stations, mean individual biomass has thus to be determined for each individual community.
